Hupo - Human Proteome Organisation

Human Proteome Project (HPP)

HUPO announced the global Human Proteome Project (HPP) at the Sydney World Congress in September 2010 and launched the HPP at the Geneva World Congress in September 2011. The goal of the HPP is to identify and characterize at least one protein product from each of the 20,300 protein-coding genes. The timing reflects dramatic advances in the resource pillars for the HPP --a wide array of of mass spectrometry platforms, the antibody-based Human Protein; and ProteomeXchange to integrate proteomics-based knowledge-bases.

The HPP is organized into two investigative arms: a chromoome-centric HPP, with consortia so far, and a complementary effort to facilitate extensive biology and disease driven (B/D) proteomics projects. Progress will be illustrated with findings from the breast-cancer-driven Chromosome 17 project.

The HPP is governed by an Executive Committee and Senior Scientific Advisory Board.
