Proteomics Standards Initiative
Overview of Project
The HUPO Proteomics Standards Initiative (PSI) defines community standards
for data representation in proteomics to facilitate data comparison, exchange
and verification.
The Proteomics Standards Initiative (PSI) was founded at the HUPO meeting
in Washington, April 28-29, 2002 (see Science 296, 827). Currently, this
initiative has developed standards for two key areas of proteomics, mass
spectrometry and protein-protein interaction data. It also develops an integrative
General Proteomics Format for the full representation of a proteomics experiment.
Thus far, PSI has:
- Developed, published, and implemented the PSI MI standard for molecular interactions. Now widely accepted as a standard for the representation of molecular interactions, and implemented by e.g. BIND, DIP, HPRD, Hybrigenics, IntAct, MINT, and MIPS.
- Developed mzData standard for representation of mass spectrometry data. Now released, under implementation by major mass spectrometry instrumentation vendors.
Collaborations with other Initiatives
Storage, manipulation, and archiving of all of the data from the other initiatives is done via the PSI, thus, this Initiative collaborates with all of the other initiatives.
