Overview:

The European Research Institute for the Biology of Ageing (ERIBA) is a research institute at the University Medical Centre Groningen (UMCG). ERIBA aims to discover molecular mechanisms of ageing that can be used as targets to prevent or delay age-related diseases.

The Laboratory of Macromolecules and Interactomes at ERIBA is looking for an experienced postdoctoral researcher to develop mass spectrometry-based assays for proteomics and analytical biochemistry. The position is funded for 2 years, extensions possible provided financial support.

This ad is geared towards a PhD-level scientist (our preferred recruitment) – however, an MS degree-holder would be considered if they have sufficient experience and demonstrated ability to drive projects (semi-)independently.

Responsibilities:

The successful applicant will initiate new research projects that excite them, within the domains of interest of our lab. For this position, primary emphasis will be placed on interactomics and biomarker development with LINE-1 retrotransposons. The successful applicant will also be expected to collaborate with others in the lab to leverage MS-based proteomics in their projects. We focus mostly on quantitative affinity proteomics using bottom-up analyses, however new method development proposals that capitalize on our research infrastructure will be enthusiastically supported.

We have access to multiple MS instruments, but our primary instrument is a Thermo Exploris 480 (w/ BioPharma option and FAIMS) interfaced with an UltiMate 3000 nano HPLC system. We also have a 908 Devices ZipChip for CE-MS and a many other instruments for analytical biochemistry and proteomic assay development. We will prioritize applicants with excellent training in the operation of Thermo Orbitrap instruments. Prior experience with protein immunoprecipitation and/or scientific programming in R would be considered highly advantageous for applicants.

Qualifications:

Required
·       PhD in analytical (bio)chemistry or related (or MS as mentioned above)
·       Notable experience in protein mass spectrometry
·       Independent research attitude
·       Strong communication and writing skills
·       Organized and results-oriented team player
Appreciated
·       A track record in proteomics research
·       Competent scientific programmer for data analysis and data visualization
·       Competence with other protein-related analytical techniques

To be considered for this position, please email John LaCava – provide a CV and a brief (one paragraph) description of your motivation for this position. Information on the salary and benefits are detailed here: https://werkenbijumcg.nl/-/vacatures/researcher-in-biochemistry/proteomics/10419-02s0007nlp

If you are considered for the position, you will eventually be asked to provide contact details for 2-3 professional references and will make an official application through our web-based system (link above).
