Position Title: Postdoctoral Scholar in Systems Virology

The Johnson Lab in the Department of Microbiology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City is seeking applicants for a postdoctoral position in the field of systems virology. The successful applicant will support projects integrating high-throughput genomics, proteomics, and CRISPR/Cas9 genetics technologies to understand signaling networks supporting viral infections, with the intention to identify novel targets for antiviral therapies. The Johnson lab has active, NIH-funded projects studying SARS-CoV-2, HIV-1, Ebola virus, yellow fever virus, and gammaherpesviruses. This position will primarily support a SARS-CoV-2 project.
Applicants should have substantial experience in most of the following molecular biology and virology approaches: mammalian cell culture, molecular cloning, genetic perturbations (i.e., siRNA/shRNA knockdown, CRISPR/Cas9 knockout, lentiviral cDNA transduction), virus propagation and quantification, flow cytometry, and immunofluorescence microscopy.
Applicants should have some experience or a strong interest in developing systems biology skill sets such as next-generation sequencing, mass spectrometry-based proteomics, and bioinformatics analyses.
Applicants must be detail-oriented, highly organized, and willing to work as part of a diverse team.
The Department of Microbiology is a world-class environment for training in virology. The department, chaired by Dr. Peter Palese, includes more than 20 independent virology and immunology laboratories that support greater than 100 students and postdoctoral fellows. Laboratories in the department have high-level expertise in a wide variety of viruses (influenza, SARS-CoV-2, hepatitis C virus, arboviruses, retroviruses, Nipah and Hendra viruses, herpesviruses, and others) and many aspects of host immune defense.
