HIPP

The collection of peptides presented to the cell surface by class I and class II human leukocyte antigen (HLA) molecules are referred to as the immunopeptidome and are of great importance for basic and translational science. For basic science, the comprehensive analysis of the immunopeptidome is a critical component for understanding the immune system; for translational science, exact knowledge of the immunopeptidome can directly fuel and guide the development of next-generation vaccines, cell therapies and immunotherapies against autoimmunity, infectious diseases and cancers.

HUPO-HIPP started in 2015. The long-term goal of HUPO-HIPP is to map the entire repertoire of peptides presented by HLA molecules using mass spectrometry technologies, and make its robust analysis accessible to any immunologist, clinical-investigator and other researchers. Pillars of the HUPO-HIPP program are: (1) method and technology development, (2) standardization, (3) effective data sharing, and (4) education.

Current lines of work:

  • Organize a HUPO-HIPP summer school every two+ years to expand the immunopeptidomics community
  • Organize quarterly virtual webinars/panels to share and discuss the latest advances in immunopeptidome research and technology development
  • Design multi-laboratory studies to benchmark protocols and MS technologies
  • Establish partnerships with MS developers to improve detection and analysis of immunopeptidomes
  • Establish partnerships with journals’ editors and funding agencies to enforce sharing of immunopeptidomic data
  • Promote the visibility of HUPO-HIPP in publications, conferences, workshops and elsewhere
