Award Categories
Discovery in Proteomic Sciences Award
For a single, high-impact discovery at any career stage.
Recognizes a scientist for a single significant discovery in the field of proteomics. This award spans the career of a scientist and can be recognized at any time of the career.
Prize: $3,000 & complimentary registration to HUPO 2026
Rising Star Award
Organized by the HUO Early Career Researcher (ECR) Committee
This career achievement award is designed to recognize early career researchers who have had an exceptional impact on the proteomics field and community early in their career. NOTE: Open to HUPO members who have accumulated at most 5 years after their Ph.D. defense, by the submission deadline. Ph.D. career interruptions and leaves, such as parental leave, will be taken into account with provided evidence to extend the eligibility period.
Prize: $2,000 & complimentary registration to HUPO 2026
Clinical & Translational Proteomics Award
For impactful contributions to clinical/translational proteomics.
Recognizes a scientist with a sustained or significant effort in the field of clinical and translational proteomics
Prize: $3,000 & complimentary registration to HUPO 2026
Science and Technology Award
Celebrates innovations from industry. Sponsored by the HUPO IAB.
Recognizes an individual or team in private industry for the commercialization or (not necessarily) the invention of products, technologies or procedures which had the demonstrated effect in enabling proteome researchers to advance their science. Nomination criteria include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Technology is applicable to the field of proteomics
- Technology is well established and has resulted in a product (e.g. proven commercial product)
- Company nomination not limited to HUPO only members and has a product of significance

Lukas Reiter Memorial Award - HUPO Excellence in Bioinformatics and AI in Proteomics
The HUPO Award for Excellence in Bioinformatics and AI in Proteomics, established in memory of Dr. Lukas Reiter, honours his outstanding contributions to the field of mass spectrometry–based informatics. This award recognises researchers who have made significant and impactful contributions to proteomic bioinformatics and artificial intelligence, advancing biological discovery through the development of innovative computational tools, methodologies, or AI-driven approaches.
The award aims to acknowledge individuals at a formative yet established stage of their scientific careers, whose creativity, technical excellence, and vision are shaping the future of proteomics.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Hold a PhD awarded between 5 and 10 years prior to the application deadline (career interruptions such as parental leave, illness, or other documented circumstances will be taken into consideration)
- Be actively engaged in research related to proteomic bioinformatics, computational proteomics, or AI-driven proteomics
- Demonstrate a clear record of independent and influential contributions to the field
Eligible Contributions
Nominees must demonstrate impactful achievements in bioinformatics and AI applied to proteomics. Eligible contributions may include, but are not limited to:
- Development of software platforms, algorithms, or computational tools
- Creation of computational or analytical frameworks for proteomics data
- AI-driven or data-centric approaches advancing proteomic analysis
- Influential peer-reviewed publications
- Patents, translational outputs, or widely adopted community resources
- Other demonstrable innovations that have meaningfully influenced proteomics research
Nomination Requirements
Candidates must be nominated by a third party (e.g. senior colleagues, mentors, collaborators, Proteomics Society or institutional leaders) Nominators must be familiar with the nominee’s work and able to speak to its significance and impact.
