Date:  Friday, May 10, 2024

Time:  7 am PST / 10 pm EST/  / 3 pm CET

Speaker: Prof. Isabelle Fournier

Webinar Description:
Surgery remains the first frontline treatment for most solid tumors. The quality of surgery is paramount to the patient's prognosis and life quality but limited by the impossibility of the surgeon to collect molecular information in vivo. SpiderMass is a novel Ambient Ionization Mass Spectrometry technology which is micro-invasive and painless designed for in vivo and in man analyses. Combined with AI processing, SpiderMass MS Imaging brings the creation of interpreted 3D maps to be used as Digital Twins to tailor the surgery. By providing a molecular hand to the surgeon, SpiderMass paves the way of precision surgery in oncology.

Speaker Bio: Prof. Fournier is Distinguished Professor at University of Lille and holds a position as co-director of the PRISM Inserm U1192 Lab and as Vice President for Doctoral Research at the University of Lille. She is a bioanalytical chemist specializing in clinical mass spectrometry and proteomics. She first started research working on the fundamentals of MALDI during her PhD at University Pierre & Marie Curie in Paris and then, as a postdoctoral fellow within the group of Prof. Michael Karas in Frankfurt. In 2002, she established her own group at the University of Lille where she started developing MALDI MS Imaging. She has pioneered the field with several developments including strategies for imaging of FFPE tissues and proteins, and the development of tagged probes for targeted MS Imaging of mRNA and proteins for MALDI IHC and ISH. In 2009, she was hired as Full Professor and awarded a Junior position at Institut Universitaire de France. Since 2012, she became interested in the development of Spatially Resolved Proteomics guided by MALDI MSI for applications in oncology. Over the past 5 years, she also worked on the development of in vivo MS for guided surgery and intraoperative analysis. She co-founded the Imabiotech Company (now Aliri Bioanalysis) which provides services in MALDI MSI and more recently Celeos which is to commercialize the SpiderMass technology. She was recently recognized with the international distinguished award from MSACL and was awarded a senior position at Institut Universitaire de France.
